Flaim's fantasy skill: better ChatGPT advice for your league

Who to start. Who to pick up. Whether a trade helps. Flaim's fantasy skill gives your AI a playbook for turning your actual league, current news and expert views into a call for your team.

What goes into a better answer

The skill guides your AI through the evidence before it recommends a move. Take a familiar fantasy football question:

“Who should I start at flex this week?”

  1. Your league

    Facts from Flaim

    Actual stats & scoring

Use the right league, its player stats and its rules. Receptions, points or categories can change the call.

    Available roster options

Confirm who is on your team and which lineup slots they can fill before comparing your options.

  2. What’s happening now

    Current web reporting

    Recent performance & role

Check this season’s usage, recent form and upcoming opponent. A familiar name is only a starting point.

    Injury & availability

Look for the latest injury, practice and lineup reports, including changes that could affect playing time.

  3. Making the call

    Expert views + your situation

    Expert opinions

Start with several established fantasy analysts, then weigh their advice against your scoring and roster needs.

    Recommendation, reasons & risks

Make a clear call. Explain the tradeoff, flag uncertainty and say why the answer differs if experts disagree.

The goal

Who to start. Why. What could change the call.

A recommendation you can act on, with the evidence behind it and the risk you're taking. If news is thin, data is missing or experts disagree, the AI is told to say so.

News research depends on your AI app's web access. When it can't research the web, the guidance tells it to label the advice as based on league data alone.

The same care, all season

Each decision has its own playbook. Your scoring, roster and situation shape what a useful answer looks like.

Who should I pick up and drop?

Check players actually available in your league, what they improve on your roster and who to drop. Weigh waiver priority or remaining FAAB budget where reported, so the acquisition cost is part of the call.

Pickup questions

Does this trade help my team?

Evaluate both sides in your scoring, starting lineup and bench depth. Use current rest-of-season expert values, health, roles and remaining schedule; include picks and keeper consequences when they matter.

Trade questions

How does my matchup look?

Read the matchup in your format: totals and swing starters in points leagues, or categories that could flip when category detail is available. Missing category results stay unknown instead of becoming zeroes.

Matchup questions

The details that deserve extra care

Keepers & dynasty
Judge long-term value against your league’s keeper cost. If the data doesn’t settle that house rule, ask you rather than assume it.
Draft picks
Separate past selections from current pick ownership. Leave an exact draft slot unconfirmed when your fantasy platform can’t confirm it.
Season history
Verify the season’s actual result. First in the standings doesn’t automatically mean a championship.
Several leagues
Check each league’s rules and roster before comparing, accounting for different scoring systems and league sizes.

What your AI app includes

The skill is the detailed analyst playbook. Flaim also sends a short set of advice rules with your league data. Here's what each AI app gets.

ChatGPTIncludes the skill
The Flaim Fantasy plugin includes Flaim’s main fantasy skill. It loads when you ask about your connected leagues. The two extra report skills aren’t included.
ClaudeDoesn’t include the skill yet
Claude gets your league data and a short set of advice rules from Flaim: start from your league data, check current news and expert views before giving its own take, and say so when it can’t search the web. How closely Claude follows those rules can vary.
Claude Code and CodexSee Advanced
The Claude Code plugin installs all three skills. Codex and other tools that read skill folders can load them from GitHub. Setup is under Advanced below.
Advanced: install the skills

Claude Code plugin

Install all three skills and the Flaim server:

claude plugin marketplace add jdguggs10/flaim-fantasy
claude plugin install flaim-fantasy@flaim

Then run /mcp and choose Flaim to sign in.

Two additional reports

/analyze-matchup breaks down your head-to-head points or category matchup, what remains to be played and the outlook, without recommending roster moves. /activity-brief groups recent adds, drops, claims and trades by time and team, with context on why they likely happened. It covers the last two days by default.

Codex and other compatible tools

Add Flaim's server using the custom connector docs, then copy the public skill folders into your tool's supported skill directory, such as .agents/skills/. Claude Code uses .claude/skills/ for manual installs. The public repository has the files and installation instructions.

Explore league questions

The start/sit, waiver, trade and matchup guides show real league examples made without the skill. Draft and keeper guides offer questions to try with your own league.

Common questions

What is Flaim’s fantasy skill?

It’s a written analyst playbook for your AI. Flaim’s tools supply your actual ESPN, Yahoo or Sleeper league data. The skill guides the AI on which context to gather, how to research current news and expert views, and how to turn that evidence into a recommendation for your team.

Does the skill work in ChatGPT?

Yes. ChatGPT’s Flaim Fantasy plugin includes the full main flaim-fantasy skill for questions about your connected leagues, alongside the league tools and shared guidance. The two additional report skills aren’t included.

Does the skill work in Claude?

Not yet. Claude’s connector doesn’t include the skill. Flaim sends Claude your league data and a short set of advice rules, and how closely Claude follows them can vary. The Claude Code plugin includes all three skills.

Does Flaim need my ESPN or Yahoo password?

No. The skill instructs your AI never to ask for a password, cookie or token. You connect and repair leagues on Your Leagues in Flaim. Flaim stores your ESPN and Yahoo credentials securely and never exposes them to the AI.

Will the AI always have the latest injury news?

News research depends on your AI app’s web access. The guidance tells it to check current reporting and dates before advising. If web research is unavailable, it should say so and label the recommendation as based on league data alone. Thin or conflicting reporting should be flagged too.

Can the skill make changes in my league?

No. Flaim cannot set lineups, add or drop players, submit waiver claims or trades, or edit settings on ESPN, Yahoo or Sleeper. It provides analysis; you make the move in your fantasy app.

Can I read the skill or suggest a change?

Yes. All three skills are public on GitHub under the MIT license, and suggestions are welcome there.

Ask about the team you actually manage

Connect your league, add Flaim to your AI and start asking. It's free.
